May is tulip time. When most of these flowers are finishing blooming we can admire black beauties. This year I have two variations of dark tulip: classic Queen of the Night

"Black Tulip" (La Tulipe noire) it is also a title of novel by Alexandre Dumas (the father). The main protagonist is the Dutch tulips grower Cornelius van Baerle who is trying to breed a black tulip. The novel was written in 1890 and describes the tulip mania times which taken place in western Europe (particularly in Netherlands) in the end of the second half of the sixteenth century.
